George C. Bailey sure has an eye for the night skies over the Keweenaw. He found these beauties on the north shore of the Keweenaw Peninsula overlooking Brockway Mountain (the first photo) and Lake Superior (the second photo) in Eagle Harbor Twp., west of Copper Harbor. George snapped his shutter button for these shots last Saturday night, between 10:30 and 11:30 pm. The halo around the moon was a perfect circle with some stars peeking through the wispy cloud cover. His second shot almost looks like it’s still daylight, but you can just see that same halo at the top left corner, along with the stars again, shining away. Someone posted on this photo on George’s Facebook Page and called it, “Drama in the sky”. I’d have to agree with that description.
We join Morgan Andrew Somers for a time-lapse video of the Milky Way rising over Tahquamenon Falls. Morgan says the galactic core of the Milky Way is rising above the Falls and is only visible for a few months of the year and that it rarely lines up perfectly with these falls. Needless to say, Morgan spent countless hours planning and preparing for this shoot, a shot that has been a dream for years. Thank you for sharing your dream

Gorgeous! I've always been fascinated by the Milky Way. I just looks like a painting hanging in the night sky, but the distances are inconceivable to grasp mentally.
