Check it out, the Dennis family is at it again, kayaking in March! Jeff & Chris Dennis, along with Fritz were paddling around the Bete Grise Preserve last week already, all bundled up to stay warm. They spotted several swans on the ice and also what looks like a small flock of geese. I wonder if they stayed around all winter or if they already migrated here for spring and summer? Either way, it’s neat to see them here again.

Jeff recorded a video of the swans, with Chris getting in a little closer for a better photo opportunity. They sure were honking, probably warning them not to get to close to them.

As long as we’re talking birds, here are some final numbers from the 2025 Great Backyard Bird Count. I’ll only list a few of the totals here below, but you can see the numbers from the full event on their webpage by clicking the following link: Great Backyard Bird Count final results

Together folks smashed records and found more birds than ever before. At a time when the world feels fractured, the folks who participated, demonstrated that people can and will come together for the birds. Collectively, they found 8,078 species of the world’s known species, which is 158 more than the 2024 birdcount. 838,113 people from 217 countries or eBird subregions, were birding during those four days in February. If you were one of them, way to go!

What a great way to say;
“Spring is on the way!”
And Fritz was all ears
listening to those Swans.
It sounded like they were
putting out their War Cry
in case Chris got any closer.
I’d say that he got away with
a Swanee River beat-down.
Thank you Fritz and your owners
for a pleasant set!

Very cool, or should I say cold? They
are so much braver than I am. The
swans sounded so awesome. Nice to hear
them. I bet Fritz loved them.

THAT is just so awesome! Adventures galore with our
mascot!

How phenomenal the bird counting was! WOW...thanks
for that info! More species of birds too...you'd
think there would be less...w/climate change and
extinctions happening...there's more! INCREDIBLE!!!

Colorful Birds

Great pics & video in one of my absolute favorite
places. When my boys heard the swans on my computer,
they came a runnin!! lol

Always great to see the Dennis's and the star of the
show, Fritz!! I could not get in and out of that
kayak to begin with and I'd probably tip it over to
begin with... but to do that with snow and ice, you
got SISU, Dennis's fosho!!!! :=))
