E. Neil Harri captured some beautiful shots of the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse and the Marina, along with the Coast Guard Station Boathouse, once the blizzard had done its thing and deposited more snow and ice in the Harbor there. Those mounds and piles of ice in the harbor entrance are quite impressive, making Lake Superior look like another planet, not a lake at all. Seeing that, it’s hard to comprehend that in just a month or two, the Big Lake will reappear there with open waters and boats coming in and out of the harbor once again. Come on Spring and Summer, we’re waiting for you!

We don’t always get to see the plows in action, but the night of the blizzard, E. Neil Harri captured this video of the Keweenaw Road Commission plow clearing the road. He said the plow was hitting drifts on the road and losing steam, so it had to back up and get more speed and momentum to bust through those drifts and clear the road. A HUGE thank you to all the road crews that keep our roads open here UP North!

The second shot in particular is a beauty.

Last Saturday I went to hear a Celtic music group.
The lead singer commented that winters here were
more than he was used to (note this must've been
someplace other than my town, which was snowless).
He said that in Scotland if they get one or two
inches the country shuts down. So, hurrah Yoopers
for your snow removal.
