Thanks to Suyeon Griffin, we have a white, snowy heart to wish you all a Happy Valentine’s Day! Suyeon captured it on her snowshoe adventure through the woods, following Hammell Creek, to the base of the Houghton Douglass Falls. She shares views along the way, including several open water spots on the Hammell Creek and then finally arriving at the base of the 110 foot high falls. You can see the thick ice that has formed on the falls, due to the frigid temperatures we’ve been experiencing here in the Keweenaw.

The area at the top of the falls, was closed for construction back in October. You can read more about that here on the DNR Release about the project: Houghton Douglass Falls and Veterans Memorial Scenic site. This is an excerpt from this article: “The first phase of construction on the scenic site will be completed by DNR crews. This phase includes building a new site road and parking lot. Work on the trail and overlook decks will be put out for bids early next year. A contractor could start construction sometime next year, but an estimated opening date is not yet available.”

Fritz hasn’t been taking Jeff Dennis kayaking lately, but he has been begging him to go to the beach, so Jeff took him to the Eagle River Beach recently on a windy, cold day. Fritz seems to be having a great time, despite the wind howling all around him. I’m not sure if Jeff enjoyed it quite as much, though.

I guess Fritz doesn't mind being a "chilly dog"! He really enjoys frolicking in the snow despite the obviously very cold temps.

Suyeon is braver than I am, that's
for sure. I can't imagine all the
obstacles to get there at this
time of year. I guess it's worth
the trek, though. Just seeing all
that ice forming up there would be
worth the hike. I'm anxious for
the construction to be finished.

Oh the life of a dog with good
people. Fritz is one lucky dog.
Though, I'm sure he feels that
Jeff is the lucky one, lol.

Bleak, barren beauty!
Good video too! Fritz is one hot-dog
while Jeff tries to ketchup.

By Donna (Donna) on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 10:56 am:

Yer good Alex. lol

I swear, Suyeon is not afraid of anything. She
truly does spectacular hikes. Broken English Hiker
is her YouTube page.

And holy wha..was Fritz having the best time.
Leaving his scent everywhere. When a dog or cat
rubs it's "cheek" on you...they are putting down
their scent...that's where some of the scent
glands are.

Happy V.D. everyone. (Valentine's Day)

I was watching a bit of TV (like I do all day and
nite), this week's Saturday Night Live will be the
very first one. George Carlin is on...I can't
wait. And just in case...there's always ON DEMAND!

I do a Trivia email...today's answer:

The tradition of gifting chocolate on Valentine's
Day began with a dedicated marketing campaign by
Richard Cadbury. Richard Cadbury, son of Cadbury
founder John Cadbury, created the first heart-
shaped box of chocolates for Valentine’s Day. A
marketing genius, Cadbury began putting Cupids and
rosebuds on heart-shaped boxes in 1861. Thus,
began the common link between chocolate and
Valentine’s Day. A new tradition had begun. Each
year, over 36 million heart-shaped boxes of
chocolates are sold around the world

Winter cold pictures, but always nice to see.
Friday with Fritz, looks like he's enjoying
himself as usual as he should!! Two thumbs UP!!

Very clever, George and Alex lol. Donna, I'm sure
glad you clarified "Valentines Day"!! :=))

Home as of yesterday, after two surgeries. Part of
the back of my 5th metatarsal and tendon were
removed where the ulcer and infection would not
heal. I still have all my toes etc... I was
informed yesterday before leaving the
hospital, that they were able to get most of the
infection out. I have 6 weeks of new antibiotics,
but my infectious disease doctor believes it will
be closed up beforehand. I'm back on weekly
Hyperbaric treatments (my facility is top notch)
and I'm non weight bearing for the next 6 weeks
and the Drill Sergeant is making sure of that!!
lol Dang if I get caught walking even from the
bedroom to the bathroom, without my walker, I
swear she has eyes in the back of her head!!

Have a great weekend all, Helsinki's Booming!!

Welcome home Uncle Chuck...sounds like the up and
up is coming on! Yeehaw~~

I put some chocolates out for some folks in this
building...one of the ladies called and did we
laugh about V.D. And how it's really making the
rounds in old folks homes. She said "Maybe.."...lol
