Danielle Putnam has a new friend! She was outside, across the road last week when this little dude came quite close by her, looking to see what she was doing or maybe looking for a handout from her. That’s an Ermine or also commonly called a Weasel. Danielle said she hasn’t given him a reason to be afraid of her and yes, she knows they can be quite mean, but he’s still cute. He started following her around while she was putting seeds out for the birds and squirrels. Interestingly enough, Danielle saw one in about the same spot a year ago in September and that one came close to her then, also. She thinks it might be the same one coming around, only a year ago its fur color hadn’t changed to the winter white it’s sporting now. We featured her little friend back in September 2023, you can check it out here: September 28, 2023

Since Danielle said she was feeding the birds and squirrels when she encountered this critter, I figured Steve Brimm’s little squirrel buddy video would be perfect for today. I think that’s an apple he’s chewing on.

That is one beautiful critter...amazing how they
change color for protection in the outdoors!!

That must be a crab apple the squirrel is
eating...and don't they "ferment" and the squirrel
will get drunk??

Omgosh, what a cute little guy.
Love how white he is.

Cute little fella. I wonder if you can feed
it by hand or will you feed it your hand?

By Danielle Adams (Badkid) on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 - 11:15 am:

Alex - I’m not going to try feeding it by hand lol
It did want to trade the mouse or whatever it caught for the piece of
chicken I threw to it! It was like here you have the mouse, I’ll take
the chicken lol

Hi
Weasels, white-coated or not, are bold. They could
be considered mean, but I think they are just
focused on their goal of getting enough to eat. I
saw an episode of "Nature" about the wolverine,
which is a large weasel. I came away with the idea
that this is a good name for a football team if you
want it to be tough and relentless.

It is t afraid of me or my husband at all!!! The other day it was
running around at my husbands feet! I went to the house and got it
a treat, left it where it would find it….sure enough it came back
about 10-15 mins later and took its treat!!
