Da Brudders check out the Autumn hues in Big Bay. The guys said that these pictures don’t even come close to what the colors really looked like, but they did their best with the camera on the phone. You can see by these photos, that there is much beauty to behold, especially in the fall with the sea of color sparkling through the woodlands surrounding the town.

In case you’re not familiar with this location, it’s about 30 miles from Marquette and is actually one of the U.P.’s best kept secrets for a quiet adventure, including the Big Bay Pointe Lighthouse overlooking Lake Superior and a stay at the historic Thunder Bay Inn, built by the lumber barons when the town was established for the timber industry. It was also the site of a Ford Motor Company automotive plant and a retreat for Henry Ford. Another historical note for Big Bay, is the 1959 movie “Anatomy of a Murder” starring James Stewart, which was shot there in Big Bay, based on an actual murder and trial.

Compliments of the Western U.P. Visitors Bureau we get to enjoy panoramic views of glorious fall foliage and clear blue water. Their recommendation is that Fall is the perfect time to explore back roads on a bike, paddle a quiet lake, hike a densely forested trail or climb a rugged mountain. Adventure Awaits at Michigan’s Trailhead in the Western U.P.

Yet another fine set that
“leaves” my mind “raked“
with longing.
Nice pix by Da Budders!
Their mudder and fadder
must be proud.
Speaking of; does anyone remember
the song:

“Hello muddah, hello faddah
Here I am at Camp Granada
Camp is very entertaining
And they say we'll have some
fun if it stops raining.”
(Allan Sherman)

Hi
My favorites are the ones titled "Border of Hues"
and "Sea of Color".

Alex, I remember that song, with the whiny, though
creative, kid complaining to his parents (of course
it was Alan Sherman pretending to be a kid).

Even more excellent foliage color shots on today's Pasty. Neat video too.
Sure do, Alex. I was a boy scout at the time that little tune came out and it was quite funny (and pertinent too). And the counselors and the waiters were always feuding as I recall! But the lake didn't have alligators.

we just went to Big Bay last week and had lunch at the hotel. The Lumberjack Tavern is a fun place. That’s where the murder happened in Anatomy of a Murder. There’s a sign that says “Murder Free Since 1952”. My husband’s late father-in-law witnessed the murder! Thomas Rock has a nice view. We camped at Perkins Park this past summer. We liked the new ice cream shop. Big Bay is just a nice little town.

Beautiful autumn color again.

That song was great! I still love
it. The ending cracks me up.

…and BTW, the video is great. My favorite
part…the bikers at the end. Brings back memories.

I remember the Camp Granada song and I actually had the board game, with all the creepy crawly bugs and such.
Boy, am I aging myself now. Ha, ha...
P.S. I wish I had kept the game, it sells for anywhere from $40 to almost $100 right now.

Beautiful pics & video!!

Alex, I remember the song as well, buddy.

Donna took your advice; meds are on the way from
Amazon. Thx, much appreciated. :=))

Mary, thanks for making voting so easy!! Let's get
Bohemia back on top!! Pun intended lol

The ride to Big Bay is very relaxing let alone the
beauty and solitude when you arrive.

Capt. Paul or Nancy. Is there a passable two
track now from Big Bay thru the Hurons to
Lanse/Skanee yet?? OR CAN IT BE DONE IF YOU HAVE A
CRAZY ENOUGH FRIEND THAT WOULD WANT TO TRY!!?? lol

By D. A. (Midwested) on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 - 04:55 am:

U.C.,

I remember Capt. Paul talking about doing it in their new jeep a couple of years ago. The Triple A road out of Big Bay is in great shape, all the way to Eagle Mine. I don't know about west of there. I think the most common path, starting on the west end, goes across Big Eric's bridge.
