Last Saturday, the 35th Annual Michigan Tech Parade of Nations and Multicultural Food Festival took place in Houghton and Kathy Erkkila Ptaszek was on hand for some of the festivities that celebrated Holidays from Around the World. After the parade folks, headed to the Dee Stadium to sample ethnic food dishes from various countries and watch cultural groups perform their ritual dances. This is a wonderful way to bring together individuals from various backgrounds to celebrate unity and multiculturalism, enjoying cherished traditions from different countries and ethnicities. Kathy mentioned having tried the food from India’s booth and said that it was delicious...spicy, with a kick to it, but not too hot.
One of the entertaining dances Kathy enjoyed was the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community drummers and dancers. The traditional Regalia they wear are always so colorful and beautifully adorned. Their performance of a traditional dance sure was well done and quite entertaining.

Nice set, but something's missing??? Oh, I know what it is…there’s no quarreling or fighting between nations. How refreshing. I wonder if Scotland showed up? There’s nothing like a set of bagpipes to get a party rocking and rolling.

Oh AMEN Alex...where are the pipes??
KBIC did a beautiful job. Most of the ladies are "Fancy Shawl" dancers...and they are stunning shawls.
Cool Blondes for the Finns!

I caught a little of a program this morning talking about plastics. There's plastic in everything. We ingest one plastic bag a month. They said "stop drinking out of plastic"....amazing stuff. I caught something about diapers, and how the plastic is made from oil, and the dangers involved in wrapping your baby in oil..there's some kind of new diaper invented without plastic, but I didn't catch that part. (Looked it up...Healthy Baby)
