When I checked in with Judy Byykkonen about sharing her photos for today, she told me the following about her Sturgeon River Kayaking adventure: “That is one of my favorite places to kayak. They now have a kayak launch just outside of Chassell. I love kayaking on rivers. There is a peacefulness and more scenery too. The Sturgeon is very wide and slow moving . It was such a nice day!” I didn’t think I could say it any better than Judy did, except to add that she described her photos perfectly. Thanks for making my job really easy today, Judy!

We’re going Yooperlite hunting today with Twin Agates. They spent a few days in the U.P. and hunted for Yooperlites along the shores of Lake Superior. Yooperlites are fluorescent rocks that contain a mineral called ‘sodalite’ that glows under UV light. They found one that weighed about 30 lbs., but returned it to the shore, due to the rules of the State of Michigan – you are allowed to harvest up to 25 pounds of rocks per year (DNR). I love Judy's kayaking pictures.
They're always great!! These are
no exception.

Looked like a great day to be on the water.

To any future Yooperlight hunters:
Don't get the cheap UV flashlights on Amazon.
They are not the correct UV wavelength.
The wrong ones are 395nm (or higher)
The correct ones are 365nm.
This is the wavelength of the UV light (nanometers).

The 25 pound limit is only for State owned property.

There's no limit on private property (w/permission).

National Parks & some other forms of federal land, all rock hunting is prohibited.

Oh Judy...what BEAUTIFUL pictures...perfection!

I used to be able to do this. I signed up with
CanvaspeopleDOTcom, and got tons of canvases with
only the "pay shipping and handling" and my walls
are covered!

YOU need to do that with these BEAUTIES!

Imagine...a 30 pound Yooperlite! Holy wha man.
There's some deep down sea glass that lights up
too. Beautiful stuff!

Warning:

Don't shine your UV flashlight in a darkened bathroom!

You may never want to enter again.
