Deb Simons and her hubby, Ron are getting in some neat rides on their Side-by-Side lately. On this day they headed out on the trail from Lake Linden to Calumet. Deb said the railroad trestle brought her back to her childhood, when she used to go UP on the tracks behind her home. Speaking of Deb’s childhood, I have to wish her a Happy Birthday today! I love that she’s back here living in Lake Linden where her roots began and visiting many of the places and things that she remembers from her earlier days and exploring places she’s never been, too.
Along the ride, Deb and Ron encountered a few critters, the cutest of them being the two fawns with their mother. The little family didn’t seem too bothered by them and even posed for their photos, but Mom was keeping a sharp eye on them for sure. They also saw a Ruffed Grouse on the trail who didn’t seem to be too concerned about them either. Maybe they’re just critter whisperers!
We join a young birder, named Chris for today’s video excursion. Birding With Chris takes us to the Nara Nature Park for a look at the various feathered friends he encountered on his adventure there.

Nice pix Deb and wishing you a Happy Birthday, young lady! I’m so glad that you’re able to get out and about enjoying your retirement. May you and Ron have many more years to come. Speaking of enjoyment; in the video, those Cedar Waxwings passed out slothed on the floor brought back a few memories.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I'm glad I moved back too, Mary. It's been wonderful getting reacquainted with so many places and things I used to see and do. And I've been lucky to get reacquainted with some wonderful people, too.
The mom and her babies were my favorite part of this particular ride. On the ride before this one we saw mama bear and her cub. And mama was quite big, standing on her back legs and watching that we didn't get too close to her baby.

Hi Happy birthday DebS. I'm glad your bear encounter went peacefully.
I enjoyed the bird watching video. Chris is a serious birder! With regard to the savannah sparrows, I was reminded of a naturalist who referred to hard-to-identify sparrows as LBJs--- little brown jobs.

Kathyl, That's funny! We used to called them LBBs for little brown birds!

Kathy…did the the little brown jobs pay well or was it just minimum wage?
