What better way to honor our National Flag on Flag Day, than to fly it proudly like Marcy Bessolo Hermanson does outside her home in Ahmeek. I love the way it’s unfurled in the wind in this photo.
E. Neil Harri flies his Flag proudly out in front of his Eagle Harbor home, overlooking the Harbor there. He was lucky enough to capture an Eagle that landed there, just above the Flag, like it was standing at attention, honoring the Flag, too.
Here is a bit of trivia about our American flag: It is often referred to as the "Stars and Stripes" and features a total of 50 stars and 13 stripes. The stars represent the fifty states of the United States, and the stripes represent the thirteen original colonies that declared independence from British rule and formed the United States of America. Of the thirteen stripes, seven are red stripes and six are white stripes. The colors of the flag are symbolic as well; red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice. In today’s video from ABC 10 UP, we hear from Tom Ranta, American Legion Richard M. Jopling – Post #44 in Marquette, who fills us in on the meaning and some of the history of Flag Day.

Great Pictures & Video!! Great respect and a real American should never say or be heard calling those who served our Country and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, "losers or suckers" or fly the flag upside down!

You got that Uncle Chuck....
Really cool....I was reading my Lake Superior Magazine today, and they had a section on Bridges. They had the Portage Lake Lift Bridge in it, and they said "The bridge will show you its other side too. Joe (Duke) Sterbenz and his bride JoAnne got married on the bridge, and some cord or link broke and they got stuck up there for a few hours!"
Remember Duke? He was one cool dude...for sure. (I ran something in google, and it said only ONE couple got married on the bridge!)
Big article and cover photo from Shawn Malone too...really awesome.
