Bootjack is where this pair of Eagles have decided to call home. They built a nest near Mandy Cadwell’s farm, so it looks like they’re going to raise a family nearby. Mandy said she feels very blessed that this pair decided to build their home with them and they actually come out to say hi everyday. They even let them get in a little closer for the photos on the tree branch, so they must be feeling comfortable there. Before you know it, Mandy will be snapping photos of them raising their babies in that huge nest in the bottom photo. That should be fun to see. I can only imagine how protective they’ll be of their brood.

Speaking of protective, we have a look at Red-Winged Blackbirds with Get to Know Nature. Wait until you see this smallish bird chasing off a much bigger bird to keep it away from their nest and hatch of babies. The lead-in to the video says: “Red-winged Blackbirds are fierce and loud but also beautiful and great parents. Meet the protective dad, the quieter mom and their scrawny but adorable babies. I love the call of these birds in particular because they herald the return of spring as they claim territories for nesting.”

What a sight! The eagles are like Tarzans
of the forest-jungle. I can just hear them
crying out to their mate, “Ungawa”.
I love the video too, getting to hear bird
calls that I can no longer hear in person.
And they don’t take squat when it comes
to their territory either. It’s not the size of
the bird in the fight, it’s the size of the fight
in the bird.

So true about the size of the
fight, Alex. Great pictures. Those
birds are so majestic and huge.
And Red Wings are so cool. I love
their call. Loved listening to
him.

Mandy...get a drone....play with it away from the
nest so they get used to seeing it...

Beautiful pics.

Those red winged are so pretty...but that
screeching isn't lovely to me.

One of the houses behind me, (Tech Rentals) has
the upper vent open in the attic, and I believe
it's empty now...but there's one noisy little bird
flying in and out...and he/she sits on the top of
the roof just hollering...then it flies into the
house and then back out....gonna be interesting!

Hi
Mandy, it's so cool the eagles feel comfortable
nesting on your farm.

Donna, I don't consider the redwing blackbird's call
of "con-ker-EEE" screeching. As my eyesight &
hearing have gotten worse, I like that I can easily
identify this particular species. Incidentally, I
got to see a male up close at a bird banding event.
His feathers looked like black velvet.
