While most of us were sound asleep in our beds this past week, Isaac Diener was out and about at 3:30 a.m. to capture these spectacular photographs of the Northern Lights. He took these along the Portage Canal in Hancock Township. As if the lights in the sky aren’t brilliant enough, the waters of the Portage were like glass, reflecting not only the bright colors, but the glowing stars that were in the sky, too. Absolutely stunning!

Alexis Dahl is at it again, with an interesting video about Alexis St. Martin who was gravely injured in 1822, on what is now Mackinac Island and the man who came to his rescue, Dr. William Beaumont. It was an encounter that would change modern medicine forever. So sit back and learn about the weird experiments that took place on Mackinac Island back then.
Alexis notes there is a correction at the 2:30 minute mark...Mackinac Island is located in this area, but is too small to appear on this map. The arrow accidentally points to the larger Bois Blanc Island. Whoops!

I converse with Isaac quite often on "X"witter about his stunning aurora photos. I know exactly where he took these shots. I haven't watched Alexis' video yet, but have visited the museum on Mackinac Island devoted to Beaumont's experiments and it is... interesting.

I actually just returned yesterday from Lansing and the Night for Notables event at the Library of Michigan to receive my book award. What an exciting evening to converse with other award winners, the staff of the Library, as well as talk with the public about the book. Another equally exciting time was the opportunity to have breakfast with former MTU women's basketball player/coach, now Assistant Head Coach at MSU and dear friend, Kim Cameron.

Needless to say, it was a great (albeit way too short) trip!

These are so beautiful...so, so beautiful...We are
BLESSED....and I need to be awake someday to look
at these again. Haven't seen them in 15 years at
least. I lived in Baraga between the state prison
and the place where they gamble. (Pasty didn't
allow the "C" word.) THERE is light pollution
there~

I love Alexis and all her Videos. There's a gal
that is gonna go places!

AND...Happy Earth Day! Be good to her!

Gratitude is most powerful as a response to the
Earth because it provides an opening to
reciprocity, to the act of giving back, to living
in a way that the Earth will be grateful for us.

I would stay up all night to see scenes like these! Thanks Isaac!

Pics are absolutely stunning!

I hope someone was watching Isaac's Six while he had the tripod in the Middle of the road, in a No Passing Zone, with Limited Visibility!

I could tell this was a harder topic for Alexis to tackle, but she did an excellent job. Check out her body language and facial expressions at the 13:07 minute mark. She typically never goes more than a few seconds without injecting that smile of hers, but here it just wasn't going to happen.

Capt. Paul, Glad your trip and ceremony went well. I am getting a lot from your book.
