We recently had gale force winds predicted for Lake Superior, so the freighters that were on the Big Lake headed for harbors of refuge. These photos were snapped in L’Anse, by Em Courter, a newcomer to the Pasty Cam. I’m not certain, but I think this is the Kaye E. Barker. Great shots, but can you imagine seeing it that close to shore in person? What a thrill that must have been!
Special thanks to Donna MacIntosh who forwarded the photos to me and also obtained permission for us to share them on the Pasty Cam.
Our video comes to us from Andrea Guerriero over at DRE Designs – Great Lakes Marine Products. She said this is the Chestnut Salty, arriving in Sault Ste Marie with Captain Eric Treece aboard as their Pilot. He was kind enough to send out a salute, which was great! He is taking them all the way to Thunder Bay, having hopped on board in De Tour. We’ll see if he brings them back down again or if his assignment changes.

Great pictures! Wouldn't it be wonderful to live where you see them taking refuge like that? Welcome Em.

Thanks for sharing these great shots, Em! It would have been great to see it in person!
We enjoyed the vid by Andrea too - we are members of the National Museum of the Great Lakes and enjoy seeing the ships out on the Lakes!
