The slough alongside the Big Traverse Road, empties into Lake Superior, but not right now. Even though the temperatures have been above average and we’ve been experiencing more sunny days than usual, the slough is still iced over. Barbara Bouwkamp is always good about snapping photos of the present condition of the slough, as she heads to their camp out that way. You might think the slough is unimportant or maybe even boring, but the folks with camps and homes know the importance of this waterway, because if the mouth of the river gets blocked by washed up beach sand where it meets the Big Lake, then the slough backs up and floods the road, which makes it difficult to maneuver to the camps and homes out there.
With spring less than a month away, Cody Boyer from TV6 & Fox UP, along with Michigan DNR Deputy, John Pepin, fill us in on what to expect when it comes to spring Mosquitoes.

I sorta remember that area flooded one time...not bad, but it flooded.....Water is gorgeous, and we have to have it, but it needs our RESPECT! Or....it'll show ya who's boss!

Nice to see what it's like out there. It's great to cross the bridge and see that beautiful, blue water. A friend was snowmobiling and fishing on Gobebic this weekend and she said there was still plenty of ice. That surprised me. They caught some nice perch.
