If you’ve been a regular visitor here on the Pasty Cam, you know when you see the photographer of the day is Nancy Haun, that you’re going to see and most likely hear trains. Today is no exception to that rule...but first Nancy starts us off with a beautiful Huron Bay sunset, reflecting in the icy waters there, too. It sure is a beauty!

Then the next two shots are what we’re used to seeing from Nancy, no matter the weather, she’s out there capturing the Canadian National, this time in Herman and then as it crosses Falls River in L’Anse. The bright red on the CN always announces it’s arrival, but with the snow blanketing the ground, it stands out all the more, as you can see in the first of the train photos. I love that!

If you’re hoping to hear the train whistle today, Nancy has that covered. Turn UP your volume and sit back to enjoy. It’s interesting to see the difference in the snowcover from L’Anse to Herman, where because of the elevation there, they normally receive the most snowfall. Nancy’s lead-in to this 9 minute video is as follows: “The day started out cloudy then as the CN arrived and I followed it from Bovine to L''Anse the snowflakes came in large and small sizes! By the time I caught the CN in Bovine it was a heavy wet snow! Very beautiful and quite a contrast from the two days previous heavy fog! 2/1/24”

I saw these pictures and they screamed Nancy!
Great pictures, as always!

Always love Nancy's train videos and comments. Interesting at about 6 mins into this video, the train is going backward for some reason. Maybe to either drop off or pick up some more rail cars(?)

Nice set…there’s something lonely about a
train whistle.
And there is that Burger King at time marker 3:45.
That’s where I had a double beef Whopper and was
sick as a dog with the hershey squirts for 3 days.
I was staying at the Baraga Lakeside Inn across
the bay and couldn’t step out of the room.
I don’t know if it was bad meat or just undercooked,
but I was running out of TP and started to panic
wondering what I could use next. I had plenty of
underwear and started eyeballing the hotel curtains.
I had a glow-in-the-dark rash that could be spotted
from space, so I was in no mood for riding. When
the risk was over, I headed for home riding on
eggshells.

Wow, on top of the normal great train shots - and as you say, Mary, so beautiful in the snow - a beautiful sunset too! Following the link you provided for Herman reminded me it held the snow record for Michigan.

Looks like even planning on having the snow dance this weekend got snow on the way, but we need more than 4-5" to arrive!

Speaking of Herman........ just saw the story about the scheduled power outage for customers in Aura, Skanee, Zeba, and Herman from 8pm Saturday night until 6am or so on Sunday. Crank up the heat or crank up the generator - could be a miserable night!

That first photo is gorgeous!

Very, very VIVID, Alex.
