Fred Koski shares today’s photos and reports that last week there was an invasion of waxwings in the Three Lakes area. He said dozens of them were attacking his crabapple tree. He wondered whether they were Bohemian Waxwings or Cedar Waxwings. So I did a Google search and found the following information from AllAboutBirds.org:
Is a cedar waxwing the same as a bohemian waxwing? Similar Species to Cedar Waxwing, All About Birds, Cornell ... Bohemian Waxwings have gray bellies and rich cinnamon under the tail whereas Cedar Waxwings have yellowish bellies and white under the tail. Perched birds have a white bar across the dark wing feathers that Cedar Waxwings lack.
Fred’s pictures show the gray bellies and cinnamon under the tail, plus the white bar across the dark wing feathers. So I'm saying Bohemian Waxwings and Fred said he came to the same conclusion.
Along the bird line, we have A Very Patient Red-Shouldered Hawk, from Get to Know Nature, who spent hours watching the birds and other critters who came and went while it sat there watching.
I have to send out a BIG thank you to Donna MacIntosh, who unbeknownst to most of you, is the lady behind many of the videos you see here each day. She diligently sends me links that she thinks might be of interest to you, our viewers. Thank you, Donna, you ROCK!

Ah...Mary...thank you...I'm honored to help you out!~
These waxwings are such STUNNING birds. Years ago, I was sitting at Brunet Park, and a tree there was just covered.....they were the Cedar Waxwings. Such beautiful birds!

Strikingly beautiful bird! Thank you, Mr. Koski And a shout-out to Donna for that exquisite video selection! You rock my world, girl!
Now I’ve got the song; “Bohemian Rhapsody“ stuck in my head. “ Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide No escape from reality” (Queen)

Thanks, Alex. Now it's in my head:
Open my eyes, look up to the skies and see I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
But I digress. Absolutely stunning pictures of these birds. The hubby says he's seen the Bohemian wax wings at our house in Minnesota. But I don't remember seeing them. But these are great pictures. Thank you. And thank you, Donna, for the videos.
