Cathy McKenzie took a drive up to the top of Brockway Mountain last week, after a little fresh snow had fallen...in a car. That’s unusual in a car this time of year, as the road to the top is not plowed in the winter months, but with the little snow we had gotten up to last weekend, it was an easy drive. Normally this time of year the only way to drive UP there is by snowmobile, which is how it will be from now on, with the snow we’ve gotten this past weekend. Cathy said the horizon was actually quite clear up there, enough that they could see Isle Royale off in the distance. She added that the view all around was beautiful to see.

In photos three and four you can see in the distance below, the white, snowy areas...on the right is Keweenaw Mountain Lodge Golf Course and on the left is Lake Fanny Hooe. Then in the fifth photo you get a better look at Lake Fanny Hooe down below. The views of Copper Harbor below are pretty, with the snow cover, too. Things are a little quieter in the Harbor this time of year. But now with a good base of snow, the snowmobile traffic should pick up for the businesses that stay open there year round.

National Geographic photographer, Michael George, finds the wild side of Upper Michigan, starting in Marquette and travels to Copper Harbor, then takes a seaplane to Isle Royale National Park this past summer. Join him on his journey through the U.P.

Beautiful set! Brockway Mountain Drive was always my final destination when cruising on the Wing and was the pinnacle
of my 600 mile journey from metro-Detroit. And an entertaining video, as well.

Snowmobiled up there many times, beautiful from up there.

That is the most gorgeous site, on the night of a full moon in the middle of winter. The top of Brockway Mountain. Just fabulous. That road needs to be replaced tho....message the gov to do so!!

AMAZING to have been up there in a car this time of year....how awesome! GOOD for you Cathy!~

That video is so awesome. Thrilled for the camera man to see home!

I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.

What a gorgeous view from up there. I can see for miles and miles. (Did you sing that?) Anyway, my favorite is the view of Copper Harbor. It always is when we go up there.

Fantastic pics as always, but these are really fantastic!! :=)) Probably stopped in each of those spots to admire the beauty myself, lol.

The video is really cool too, seems like everyone has their own video & discovery of the U.P. and it's always pretty neat to hear their narrative and see their looks of approval & amazement!!

Mary, I think you and Jim should be in or make a video similar to these videos, your perspectives would be interesting and reality!! HEY CHARLIE- I'VE GOT A GREAT IDEA FOR YOUR NEXT PROJECT!! Can I get a two thumbs U.P. Pasty fam!!!!

Alex, buddy 600+ miles by the time you hit Brockway, lol.

Deb, Who sang that song, "I can see for miles"?? wink wink

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, January 18, 2024 - 01:11 pm:

Ok UC, don’t keep us in suspense, who sang that song, dang it?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, January 18, 2024 - 01:27 pm:

You two guys are too funny.

By George L. (Yooperinct) on Thursday, January 18, 2024 - 02:57 pm:

It could have been an owl singing that tune, but I don't know Hoo it was...!

By D. A. (Midwested) on Thursday, January 18, 2024 - 03:30 pm:

I've never been up Brockway in the Winter. Not being a snowmobiler myself, looks like now was a good time to go. Thanks for the trip. When were those plaques installed?

The video got things correct, in the proper order. The U.P. is a very special place & the Keweenaw is even more special, but Isle Royale is the most special of all.

And U.C. just made me realize that here in Northern Illinois I'm a bit closer at just under 500 miles away.
