Dating back to our early days on the Pasty Cam, we pause on this last day of October to honor the memory of friends and relatives who have left us too soon:

Nadine Brandes
Michele “Mickey” Brey
Abby Faulkner
Frances Grunow
Steven “Cubby” Harry
Frank & Delores “Dee” Jezek
Reverend Robert Langseth
Reino Narhi
Thomas Normand
James Perfetti
Thomas Poynter
Joan Schick
Innocent victims of war in the current conflict,
Servicemen & women and
Frontline workers who have given their all

All of us here at Pasty Central extend our deepest sympathy to those who have lost someone near and dear to them. The name “Nadine Brandes” in the list may not ring a bell, but that is Capt. Paul’s beloved mother who passed away just a few days ago. Another name on the list may not be familiar unless you have been a visitor here on the Pasty Cam for a while...”Frank Jezek”. Frank was a frequent contributor back in the day, when he and his wife, Dee, lived in the Ontonagon area. I was lucky enough to meet him in person when they lived in Houghton at the Bluff’s for a short time. He was a prince of a guy who loved the U.P. dearly. May they all Rest in Peace.

Please feel free to share the names of those you would like to remember here today. Special thanks to Sally Beaudette for capturing such a stunning sunset for us to reflect upon.

Condolences to all.
And deepest sympathies to you and your family, Paul.
May the Lord strengthen you and give you peace.

“But your dead will live, Lord;
their bodies will rise—
let those who dwell in the dust
wake up and shout for joy—
your dew is like the dew of the morning;
the earth will give birth to her dead.”
Isaiah 26:19 (NIV)

Captain...so, so sorry for your loss.

Blessings to all.

"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love." ~ Washington Irving

What a beautiful sunset!

Condolences to all of the friends and families of those who've passed this month.
My father in law passed away on October 23rd, 20 years ago. It's so hard to believe he's been gone that long.

Condolences to you Paul. I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Beautiful sunset! Nothing like the snow we are getting now!

Thinking of my aunt, who also passed 20 years ago - and like Deb, it's hard to believe it has been that long.

I'm so sorry about your Mom, Capt. Paul, may she rest in peace and may you and your family be comforted in the days ahead.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 - 07:32 pm:

Beautiful Boot Jack sunset. Paul, deepest condolences on the passing of your mom. I hope you and Dr Nat find comfort in your memories and you smile again soon.

I will also add to the list, my father-in-law, Doug (Vic’s dad) was called home this morning at 11AM. After his fall in early August, he fought hard to recover. Spent plenty of time in the hospital and rehab and the last 10 days in the care of hospice in his home. He passed peacefully with the family by his side. He was able to go out on his terms, not in the hospital, nursing home or rehab. Personally, I knew the man for 47 years, he loved the U.P., taught me plenty and had a terrific twisted sense of humor like yours truly! He will certainly be missed, but I take great comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain or suffering any further. I’d like to think he’s running free and enjoying his family and friends, perhaps even arguing with my dad, Norm, on who’s paying for pasties! R.I.P. Dougie, you’ve earned it!

UC, sorry to hear Doug was called Home too. I will picture him as you say - happy and free from pain. My deepest sympathies to you and nurse Vicki and Doug's wife. No matter what the situation it isn't easy to say good bye.

This has been a tough month for our Pasty family.

Thanks to everyone who have offered condolences!
It was certainly a bit of a shock to receive a phone call that your mom just suffered a major stroke in New Mexico when you're at a conference in Pittsburgh. Thankfully, we may it to her in time so that I could have a few hours with her right before she passed. I'm still processing everything but am also at peace knowing that she is no longer suffering. Anyone who had frequented Lindell's in the 90s would have seen her as she worked there while we lived in Lake Linden. I see Fran Grunow is also on the list; that was mom's boss at Lindell's at the time.

Again, thank you all for your sympathy and well wishes!!!

I'm so sorry, Chuck! I'm just seeing this. Please give Vic and her mom my deepest condolences, and you too. I'm so sorry he never recovered from his fall. That's just so sad. But yes, he's free from pain now. Hugs going out to all of you.

I'm so very sorry Uncle Chuck. My deepest sympathy to you, Vicki and your family. What a beautiful testament to your father-in-law, that you thought so highly of him. May he rest in God's perfect peace.
