When I spotted these photos from Chad Johnson, he had prefaced them saying, “It was a great day to be kayaking on Lake Superior”. One look at each scene tells you why. The amazing Jacobsville Sandstone walls, formations and caves, the crystal clear water with sandstone just below the surface, you just don’t find natural beauty like this just anywhere and it’s hard to believe it’s right here in our own “backyard” in the Copper Country. This can only be accessed by boat or kayak like today’s adventure on the shoreline northeast of Jacobsville and you want to make sure Lake Superior is relatively calm because it’s a bit of a paddle and there aren’t any places to get to shore if the Big Lake gets rough.

Chad recorded a short video of one of the Sandstone alcoves complete with the sounds of the water lapping into the opening. It’s the next best thing to being there!

There's that homestead out in Jacobsville...and
they did a show on Discovering, and way out in the
back of the property are huge chunks of the
sandstone...cut in blocks...

These are so terrific! The clearness of the
water is outstanding. I just love all the
beauty in our back yard, and all the people
who bring it to us.
