The first and second grade class from Sacred Heart Catholic Grade School in L’Anse, recently went on a field trip to the Bishop Baraga Shrine, touring the grounds and learning about the Bishop and his life. Nancy Haun was on hand to show the children and adults that accompanied them around. The children enjoyed learning about the Bishop Baraga statue, the Red Rock Memorial Plaques, the Bishop Baraga Stations and walking along the various trails on the shrine grounds. I asked Nancy about the Bishop Baraga Stations and she explained that each one has an event from the Bishop’s life on it. Nancy said it was a great day spent with wonderful kids, their teacher, Sister Hannah and the volunteers who accompanied them.

Nancy also shares a video walk around the Shrine grounds that she made while waiting for the students to arrive for their field trip day. Her narratives that accompany her videos are always so informative. Next time you're passing by Keweenaw Bay, plan to stop in at the shrine for a visit in person!

Beautiful pix and stroll…many thanks Nancy!

That place truly is magical. Nancy has done a
stunning job fixing it up. Haven't been there in a
couple of years. I'd imagine it's beyond gorgeous.
If you can get there, you should. It's truly
phenomenal!

I love stopping there. They're so welcoming
and that statue is amazing. It was built
across the street from my grandmother's
house here in Lake Linden. There's a
dedication to him on the north shore of
Minnesota that I love going to also. He
washed up on shore trying to get to Grand
Marais, MN. I believe there was sickness
there and he was trying to get there to
help. Amazing how they rode in their canoes
on that treacherous lake. But then, he was
an amazing man.

Beautiful pics & video, nice job Nancy. I've never
been there, have driven by it plenty of times.

Uncle Chuck...yer coming U.P. this summer. You
HAVE
to stop. It's beyond stunning...

Deb, remember when they drove him out of town on
the back of that flat bed? Took both lanes of the
streets, that HAD to take a long time to get it to
Baraga. THEN they got him up and the insulation
inside caught on fire? There are so many wonderful
stories connected to this man!

The start of him came out of Lake Linden's Shop
class!

A late item of news from Eagle River, where the Pasty Cam had its start over 25 years ago. One of our fellow Camwatchers - an Eagle River girl who appeared on these pages several times herself - passed away this morning. See the memorial page for Joan Pearce Sullivan. Our condolences to the family.

Beautiful morning to capture a beautiful place!

Alex, how are you feeling? We're praying for you too!
