It sure seems like we’ve been getting more intense Aurora activity around the Keweenaw lately. This past week there was another bright display, which also included a more rare Northern Light, called Steve. Todd and Taana Blom were out there in the chill of the night, snapping photos to share with us. Todd took the first two shots with his camera and Taana captured the reflection photo with her phone camera. All three photos show the stars in the sky, but that first one of the Steve is outstanding with that red streak shooting up into the starry nightsky, with a hint of the rest of the Aurora off in the lower left corner. Nice captures for sure!
Auroras are a bit of a mystery, in my opinion, so I thought this video from MI Playground about their experience at the Mystery Spot in St. Ignace would be a good accompaniment today.
Keep voting for Lake Superior as the Best Lake in all three categories. Lake Superior is currently #3 in all three catagories.
Vote for the best lake in the U.S. once per day until polls close on Monday, June 5 at noon ET. No matter the outcome, we want to do our Big Lake proud.

Beautiful pics as always. As far as Mystery Spot, no thanks, my meds and hemolysis keep me lightheaded and dizzy enough lol. Zip line, Vic says YES FOR SURE!! Folks.... I have to admit, I stopped voting for the Best body of water in the world!! What people don't know.... so much the better, they'll becoming after it soon enough, when they need water!! I would bet, most people don't even know or understand the concept of the great lakes or the U.P. outside of the Midwest and for me, that's what makes the U.P. the greatest place on earth!! If you don't get it... that's ok with me!! JMO

Ultimately, we have just one moral duty: to reclaim large areas of peace in ourselves, more and more peace, and to reflect it towards others. And the more peace there is in us, the more peace there will also be in our troubled world.
U.C. my hubby won't vote. He, too, doesn't want people to know about our lake. I think I won't vote anymore either.

Jbuck, I'm in! Have been in Lower Entry when it was owned and manned by the coast guard. Went to the Mystery Spot on vaca 10 years ago just before heading to Mackinac Island. It is really quite place with its illusions. I could almost believe they were real. (Well, maybe not quite!) But it is definitely fun.

Great shots of Steve and the northern lights!! I love all the stars you can see in the UP on a clear night. It's almost as many as I experienced when I sailed from Los Angeles to Hawaii on my sailboat. Stars all the way down to the horizon. Simply awesome!!

I agree with Uncle Chuck! Let’s keep our beautiful lake as our precious secret. Remember, once we go down that road of exposure, we can never go back. Blessed Memorial Day and all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to keep us free.
