Michael Musiel is the guy who takes care of the wind/solar power set-up on Brockway, for the Pasty.net and Internet services, along with keeping the connections working at the old Radar Base relays. He was quite busy last week when we had an ice storm and everything froze UP, including the service to Copper Harbor and surrounding areas in the Keweenaw.

The first three photos are from the top of Brockway, showing the equipment “frozen in time”. The remaining shots were from the old Air Force Radar Base where Pasty.net has relays to other areas around the Keweenaw. You can see the connections there were pretty iced UP, also. Michael and his son, Mark went there to do what they could to fix things. Mark carried two new industrial sized batteries up multiple stories of the building to fix the power outage backup issue and they took care of the icing as best they could. It’s a good thing we have guys like Michael and Mark to brave the challenge in icy conditions such as this to defrost the Harbor area services.

Since we are talking ice and defrosting, I thought it would be appropriate to share one more icy video from Steve Brimm, who promises the ice shots should not last too much longer. I’m not so sure, though, as he did have a “laughing emoticon” after that promise.
