Marcy Bessolo Hermanson shares today’s photos, which she took while exploring the Dead River Basin area last week, which is 10 miles northwest of Negaunee . I’ve never been to this area and the only information I could find is that the Dead River is a 43.2 mile long river in Marquette County. Its watershed is approximately 400 square miles and the river flows southeast to its mouth on Lake Superior. The Dead River Basin Lake is well known for fishing where you can expect to find a good variety of fish, such as Northern Pike, Walleye, Yellow Perch and Smallmouth Bass, along with Sunfish, too. It sure looks like a peaceful, relaxing place with that beautiful dock and viewing platform. My apologies for not having more info to accompany today’s photos. If any of our viewers can fill us in a bit more on this area, please feel free to do so!
Steve Brimm is going to top off today with 20 seconds of yes please and thank you! Lake Superior and outstanding skies at the end of a beautiful warm spring day in Copper Harbor.

Two days in a row there are places that I've never been to and have to add to my list. It would probably be a great place to pull the boat to. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us, Marcy.

Referring to Google Earth, I counted 4 dams and reservoirs on the Dead River. It appears the one featured today (and the dock and North Country Trailhead) is the closest to Marquette, actually bordering on the north side of town. The other 3 are substantially further out.
All 4 dams appear to generate electricity. I wonder what their output is?
Good thing they're Great Lakes. It looks crowded out there today.

Mary, A trip back to August 13, 2011 on Pasty.com, provides some information and more pictures of the Dead River and its power plants.
Mary says: Thanks, Bruce. Good information we previously shared on the Dead River and it's Power Plants. I was hoping to also find out a bit more information about the Dead River Basin area.
