Nancy Haun was in Herman, snapping some photos to give us a mini tour around the area near L’Anse. She started off with two photos, that I was amazed to find out were of the same house that was at one time the Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic (DSS&A) RR boarding house. That’s the side and back view of the building, which from the first photo, you’d never know it’s falling in as much as it is in the second photo. I also found out from Nancy, that the old truck in the first shot has no engine or deck in the back bed. It’s slowly rusting away, like the boarding house is slowly falling in.
Her next two photos are of the first railroad bridge after Herman and then the view looking toward the L’Anse Hill that the trains climb coming out of L’Anse. Then her last photo is a neat shot of the weeds in Dault’s Creek, laying down in the water on the side of the bridge. Nancy mentioned that there’s not usually this much water in the marsh there, but with the spring snow melt, it’s filled up more than usual.
We have the first of four videos from Steve Brimm this week. A babbling brook to start your Tuesday. Same kind of “weeds under the water” scene as Nancy’s photo, only this is complete with the sounds of the water flowing on by.

I love that old truck. Some paint and it'll look
cool. Hard to believe that house is the same
house. That's what you call your real fixer upper.

My thoughts exactly, Deb…that truck needs a good wash and a paint job. The house could use a coat as well.
Great pix and a great video!

They could use that house to do a re-make of Green Acres. It does look like the old Haney place all right!
