Jeff LaMuth and friends headed to the beach at Redridge last weekend, to do some ice climbing. I don’t know the particulars about climbing, but I do know that you need safety equipment and lines attached to the climber in case of a fall. You can see the safety equipment in Jeff’s photos, guide lines, harnesses, the whole array. With that said, how about these photos? The height of the wall is captured quite well in the first shot and if you follow the rope to the top, you can see someone UP there. The photos also illustrate how steep it is, like straight up and down. Kind of makes me nervous just looking at it, but these guys have been doing this for years and know their stuff.
My favorite shot, though, is the last one with one of the climbers taking a break in a naturally formed ice chair on the shoreline. He looks quite relaxed sitting there taking in the view of Lake Superior.
Make sure you turn the volume up for Jeff’s short video, as you can hear the water in the background, along with the pick axe and boot picks digging into the ice. I really liked those sound effects.

Amazing! These guys are so brave. But these pictures make me nervous. Like Mary, the last one is my favorite. Love it! Soon he can sit out there in an inner tube.

Freeze it…….and they will climb.
A good place to take a blind date where you can break the ice.

Nice pics & video, but to quote what D.A. might say... "What could go wrong" :=)) Last pic is great!
LOL Alex... especially if the date isn't going well I might add.
Happy Easter All.

Everyone has their own definition of fun and it's interesting to see how many different versions Mary has found for us UP in Michigan. Brave souls and enjoying the outdoors in the Winter!
Wishing everyone a blessed Resurrection Sunday! He is Risen! He is Risen indeed!

At first I thought he was free climbing but then I spotted the belay points. There are at least 2 of them placed on the way up. It would have to be a VERY cold day for me to even think about trusting these belay points.
Happy Easter all.
