There’s an old farmer’s saying to “make hay while the sun shines”, which means to take make good use of an opportunity while it lasts. That’s just what Debbie Jarve did this past weekend when the sun was shining and temperature was 43°, she jumped in her car to “take photos while the sun shines” in the Keweenaw. Always photogenic, the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse complex starts us out. Then the ever beautiful views from Esrey Park showing some ice cover on Lake Superior’s shores. The ice accumulated on the rocky shoreline is always impressive, especially when it has a blue tint like in the fourth photo. Debbie wraps up the mini-tour with a Big Lake splash. I’m not certain if that’s an “ice volcano” or just a niche in the ice that the waves are splashing up on. Either way, it’s fun to see that spray of water and not worry about getting wet.
We join Vibe with Mike for a look at the 1004 foot American Spirit as she rests in frigid Lake Superior waters for winter layup. Check out how massive this vessel is up close and even get a look at the bubblers around the rudders and propellers to prevent ice from forming around them, which could cause damage.

Impressive even in the winter. All some of my favorite places, though I'll admit that I don't care to go during the winter months. I get to see it all on this site. Thanks for sharing.

That's quite the video of the 1004-footer. I can't imagine trying to pilot something that huge, especially in all kinds of wind and weather.

Nice set, but now I’m waiting for Spring.
Temps have been
unusually mild here in SE MI so far this year and that suits me fine…
I hope it continues.
