We’ve been getting plenty of “lake effect snow” this week here in the Keweenaw. I always chuckle when they call it that, because it’s like maybe it isn’t real snow or something, but it still needs to be shoveled, plowed and what-have you. Snow is snow when it comes in inches upon inches.
Anyway, H. Donn de Yampert had his camera and his drone out for a few photos along the Houghton waterfront at the Bridgeview Park. Then a flyover in Hancock on Finlandia’s campus for a shot of the old Hancock High School, now Hirvonen Hall, which is home to Finlandia’s Nursing and Assistant Physical Therapists programs. The blue building is the Hoover Center, which houses Finlandia University’s Office of the President and the Advancement Department. Nice to see these older, still functional buildings being preserved and utilized like this.
Donn gives us an aerial tour looking over at Houghton and then a flyover around Hancock, too. The reflections in the old “D&N” building are pretty neat...now owned by Michael Lahti, this 135 foot high building is home to Hungtington Bank, WUPPDR, Michigan Works, Portage Health Foundation and more.

Funny you should talk about lake effect not
being "real" snow. My hubby says most
mornings that he wonders how many fake
inches of snow we got since it was "just"
lake effect snow. Just silly. Snow is snow
and we have to shovel it. I have to admit
that it's been pretty snow. I love watching
those big flakes coming down. I think it was
Tuesday that we had, what I always call,
"heart attack snow". We made sure we took
breaks from time to time because the snow
was so very heavy.
The pictures are very nice and the video was
cool too.

Interesting pix and video! And try telling Buffalo, NY residents
about lake-effect snow. 8-feet so far.
