Thanks to George C. Bailey, we’re getting a look at Lake Superior all whipped up into quite the frenzy recently. George was at Hunter’s Point in Copper Harbor to snap these photos. I don’t know what the wave height was this day, but the waves were sure coming in fast and close together. What impresses me the most is the amount of “whitecaps” on the crest of the waves, especially in the fourth photo, Lake Superior is more white than blue there.

Check out the fifth shot, the first thing you notice of course is the huge wave crashing onto shore, but look back to the left and you can see the Copper Harbor buoy out there along with bumpy looking waves out beyond it. I can only imagine how fast and often the buoy bell was ringing.

And in the last photo, that’s Porters Island, just off of Hunter’s Point. George said it wasn’t the best day for a walk to Porters...no kidding!

To wrap up this Superior frenzy, we have a more peaceful wave video at Hunter’s Point a few days later. Steve Brimm says he’s happy to have this place to himself once again, but he couldn’t keep this perfect autumn day to himself. Thanks for sharing it with us, Steve.

Another inspirational set to start the day. Many thanks to George

and Steve.

Wow to 4, 5 & 6. I love those waves. And the
video was nice too. Thanks for sharing!

The photos almost look like oil paintings, and would make excellent ones at that.

DOUBLE WOW!

It is difficult to catch the big waves when it's not totally overcast.

Unreal. Just PURE BEAUTY!

The green tint to the water seems more vibrant.
I agree, there is an oil canvas feel to them.
