Like most of us U.P. residents, Brenda Leigh has been keeping her eye (and camera) on the progress of the ice on Lake Superior. These shots were snapped last week when Brenda said the Big Lake in the Brimley area was opening up a bit. Her first photo is the H. Lee White going down bound. It’s nice to see the freighters sailing again...a sure sign that we’re headed into Spring.
Brenda also captured a shot looking over toward Canada. You can see the Wind Mill Farm across the way, that is located west of Soo Ontario, Canada. Neat to see how close across Lake Superior our neighboring country is.
That last shot, is the sand and ice that results from the Spring break up, finally happening. I’m not certain about this spot, but in many areas around Lake Superior’s shoreline, when the ice starts breaking up and moving around, it can come and go a number of times, depending on the wind direction. But eventually it disappears completely!
Another sure sign of Spring in the Marquette area, is the Blue-Spotted Salamander migration, which reportedly started later than normal this year, as it’s dependent upon the weather and we all know the weather has been up and down this year. This takes place on the southwest bend of Peter White Drive in Presque Isle Park each year and they actually closed the road there to traffic in the evenings since March 21st and will continue to do so through April 30th or until the migration is complete. We join MI Playground for more about this migration in today’s video.

Also picking up the 5th wheel today from the dealer, had some warranty work done on her. Getting excited about heading North this season!! Actually, the first U.P. stop will be in Brenda's backyard in Brimley making our way to the Keweenaw in July. Bring on Summer and hopefully no medical setbacks!!!! :=))
