Jeff Dennis, his daughter and Fritz had an exciting event at the Bete Grise Preserve recently. They were there on the beach taking some last snow-less photos on the beach, when all of a sudden a small buck ran full speed out of the woods, onto the beach where they were and continued into Lake Superior. They wondered if wolves or a hunter was chasing it. Fritz followed it to the water and they were running to catch him. Fritz then ran away from the buck toward the woods, but stopped at the edge and they put his leash back on him. Jeff said the buck kept swimming out into the Big Lake even after they left the area quickly, hoping that it would feel safe and return to shore, but he never did, just swam out of sight. Quite an amazing experience for them all. I hope the little buck swam to safety somewhere.

Today’s video is from Alexis Dahl. She gives us an interesting story of the Fresnel Lenses found in Lighthouses since the 1800’s. These lenses transformed lighthouses around the world. Alexis says after that, the lenses started showing up in everything from headlights to spacecraft. She spent the day with the lighthouse keeper at Big Bay Point Lighthouse to learn the story and shares it with us here today.

I love the pictures. I don't like that the
little buck swam out of sight. I really
hope he didn't drown. But I always love
Jeff's pictures. These ones are no
exception.

on Xmas-eve.

Hi all, interesting video and great pics & beautiful
area!!

Alex, the big man stopped using "magic dust" now if
you're gonna be part of the team pulling the big
rig.... Lake Superior in November and early December
is the required initiation I hear!!

Enough pecking... it's good to be back home, thanks
for all the well wishes. UC

Nice to see you back, UC! Did you finally rake
those leaves???

I think deer can swim quite a ways from a story I
once heard years ago. Some friends of mine were down
at Bucky's on the beach when they witnessed a deer
came swimming in from out on lake Superior. May have
been a ways out, so, who knows about their true
swimming ability.

I LOVE Alexis's vids. She knows her stuff.

Have a bud retired from Isle Royale, they have a
Fresnel lens out there, on loan from the Coast
Guard, and had 3 walls built, put in the lens, then
built the fourth wall. lol....
