Taana Blom takes a lunchtime walk along the Houghton Waterfront Trail most days. She shares some of the things that catch her eye along the way. Looking across the canal the colors are beginning to appear and even moreso along the trail. Fall colors are hard to predict, since they peak at different times for different areas. UP here they’re just starting to pop out, but last week we drove to Dickinson County for a football game and around Alberta and Crystal Falls they were out in full beauty. I think it has to do with the temperatures and the rainfall, too.
We’re joining Judy Byykkonen at the base of the Houghton Douglass Falls for a look UP at the cascade coming over the tallest waterfall in Michigan. Judy said this is one of her favorite hikes, but it’s always muddy and wet, so both the dogs and her need baths upon their return.

Mary, Do you know the date of Taana's photos. I'm racing to get my packing and provisioning completed so I can share the beauty with you.
Wonderful video of Houghton Douglas Falls. It's interesting but understandable how some get the name backwards. I remember being there back in the 70's but we were at the top and is was Winter. I didn't know the name then. I was just tagging along with some friends. Is the newly allowed access just at the bottom? I remember terrible and tragic deaths from falling at the top.
There was some discussion and interest with Deb here on Saturday when the Algoma Conveyor delivered the annual road salt shipment. I went to the Marine Traffic website and made a little video of it's trek through the Upper Portage. It's interesting because she turned around early and I am assuming because the width there is wider and safer. At approximately near Schmidt Corner she went the remaining 2 miles backwards. That's so interesting to me D.A. I know people who made it back there to see it coming in, but we didn't think it was going to head in until 4 so we didn't make it back. But there are great photos on FB. Wish I could have seen it. As for the Douglas Houghton Falls, we were there the day after Judy, but our pictures are from the top. I loved the walk into the falls, to watch the river heading to the falls. That brought back a lot of memories from childhood also. I don't remember how we got to the bottom, but I know there's no way I'd make it now. But if I did, I probably wouldn't make it back up, lol. And when I've googled the falls, Douglas Houghton Falls is what comes up. But it is confusing. Anyway, great pictures again today.

I agree with Donna regarding the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum. It's fantastic.
Here is a bit of a virtual tour of many highlights I created a few years ago. There are many other exhibits and they only display a few items of their collection so they change a few things up from time to time.
Classic UP Blues! Pretty falls, whatever their called. Good info about the museum..."Maybe someday!"
