We take a look at Lake Superior over two days last week, first with Deb Simons, who is back to her roots here in the Keweenaw where her and Ron retired recently. Deb said the wind finally cooperated and had the Big Lake rocking and rolling in the first two shots. When someone commented that they love Lake Superior, Deb replied with the sentiment that so many of us feel, “I don’t know how you could not?”

The bottom two shots were snapped by Judy Byykkonen on the very next day, after the wind had continued blowing through the night and into the following afternoon. If you look closely in Judy’s photos, you can see the waves all riled up way out on the horizon, not just as they get closer to shore. That’s the kind of waves that bring a new crop of Lake Superior agates to the shoreline.

Judy recorded a video the day before her photos, actually the same day Deb took her shots. Judy said she was out there twice that day enjoying incredible Lake Superior in action.

As we were coming down the road to the lake,
we could see the waves from pretty far away.
So we knew we had a decent day. It seemed
strange that we weren't freezing. That wind
off the lake usually makes me so cold. By the
time we left I couldn't feel my ears, lol, but
it was worth it. How great is it that when
the urge strikes, which is often, Mother
Superior is only about 10 minutes away.

Thanks, everybody. UC, we're here for the
most part. Sold the house in MN and moved
into the house I grew up in. Winters may not
be spent here. Well, at least part of the
winter.
Alex, I'm thinking more like a side by side.
We took a walk up behind my house where I
spent a lot of my childhood exploring.
There's a lot more going on up there than when
I was a kid. We still had trains going
through then. That's all gone and there are
lots of 4 wheeler trails. It is so beautiful
UP there. I took lots of pictures. Made me
remember what I so loved about it here.

UC, it always was and always will be the
Lions! I get so frustrated with them losing
all the time, but they'll always be my
favorite team. And my second favorite will
always be whoever's playing the Packers.

FRNash, I hear you clucking about being out of
shape. The pandemic did a number on me. I
couldn't get to my pool or exercise bike.
I'll be having to do more walking up behind
our house. Unfortunately, my knee has no
cartilage in it and it doesn't take long for
it to give out. Anyway, it's too bad you
can't get UP here any more. Pictures will
have to do, eh?
