We often experience fog or haze in our skies, but not the haze we’ve been seeing (and smelling) lately. That haze has been coming from wildfires mostly near Canada’s Ontario-Manitoba border and some in the western United States. Air quality reports have been all over the place with this, too, but myself, I’ve only smelled the smoke here in Lake Linden on one day, others though have commented they could smell it more often, depending on where they live.
Wildfires are of course devastating where they are happening and the smokey skies are not very pleasant, but they do make for some dramatic sunrises and sunsets. We have a few here today, the first one from Steve Brimm, over at Steve Brimm Photography. He caught the sun just as it decided to sit atop a tree in Copper Harbor.
The next two shots were snapped by Jean Dessellier out in Traprock Valley. The colors in that second photo are pretty amazing. And then the third photo with sun turning the clouds orange like that, makes for an interesting scene for sure.
Steve Brimm also shares a video of the hazy sun that he titled, “20 seconds of what planet we be on?”. It is kind of “otherworldly” looking.

Hi
My mom has asthma, and my brother has both asthma
and COPD. They have both had difficulty breathing
with the smoky air.
