According to the Seney National Wildlife Refuge Webpage, the Refuge was established in 1935 as a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife. It is located in the east-central portion of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, halfway between Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. The 95,238 acre refuge encompasses the 25,150 acre Seney Wilderness Area, which contains the Strangmoor Bog National Natural Landmark. You can check out their Facebook page for more information, click here: Seney Refuge
Chad Johnson was there recently with camera in hand and snapped a few shots to share. I don’t think the visitor center opens until sometime in May and am not sure whether there are any restrictions for this year, but you can still drive or walk around and check out the wildlife like Chad did. Get out and enjoy the fresh air!
Today’s video from Great Getaways is from a few years back, but gives you a good idea of what all the Refuge is about.

Another beautiful, peaceful area; have been there many times. Heard the world famous loons are back - oldest ones on record.
Thanks for the tour Chad!

Hi Jbuck, I had read an article in our newspaper about the old loon pair. It said that loons don't necessarily mate for life but that this pair has been together for all the years they've been ay Seney.

Seney is such a peaceful place to just unwind. Nat and I spent an entire day just driving around the system of trails around the mashes in a Jeep Wrangler with the tops/doors off, so visibility was great. Even saw the Loon pair floating around while we were there...
