It’s not that often you can ski on the Portage Canal, at least not in the winter. Sarah Eles and her daughter Alaina did that one evening recently. Cool to get a photo with the famed Ranger III, but they were careful not to get too close, as the Ranger has bubblers that are kept running to keep the ice from freezing around the engine intakes. The other highlight was posing with the Portage Lake Lift Bridge and setting sun behind them. Definitely an experience that they won’t soon forget!

The video gave me the jits. That's how they'd plow
Dollar Bay in the winters. They did the 3 main
drags..dairy road, post office road and school
road. The side roads were done monthly with that
huge machine, and you prayed you got out before
they came through...otherwise, you had a chest
deep bank of ice and snow to move...THEN you gotta
call in late, cause you WILL need another shower
and a change of clothes!! Oh the memories~
