Our Lady of Snows is an ice chapel built by the students and community of St. Albert the Great University Parish, during Michigan Tech’s Winter Carnival. Inspired by the European ice chapels, this is its sixth year. The chapel has received nationwide recognition. (Info courtesy of Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula).
Despite all the wind and snow, St. Albert the Great Parish had a number of beautiful Masses, both in the evening and during the day on Friday and Saturday, in the Ice Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows! It was brisk and windy, but Fr. Ben Hasse and the Parish have been celebrating parking lot Mass all fall and winter, so they’re pretty toughened up for outdoor worship services!
Their big architectural addition to the Chapel this year, was an elevated pulpit, where the readings and the Gospel were proclaimed. Seating was limited and the Parish had a sign-up for those wishing to attend the various Masses, so they would have an idea of the numbers for each service. Once capacity was attained, they had places outside the Ice Chapel where folks could stand and still hear and participate.

Sort of reminds me of the church I used to attend as a youth. It was always freezing in there.

Beautiful chapel - they did a great job! Perfect year for people to come out and attend Mass at the ice chapel - part of a crazy historic year.
