Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers are so similar, except for the size, so I’m always hesitant to name which one is which, but I think this one, that Jean Dessellier snapped at her backyard feeder, is a Downy. They are so fun to watch, flitting up and down a tree, pecking at the bark and then hanging on the suet feeder like this one.
Jean’s remaining photos are some of the deer she’s encountered lately, with a few turkeys added in. The first deer shot, was taken in her backyard also and that looks to be a smaller deer. Then her last two shots were taken in Gay. Fun to see the turkeys and the deer getting along together, even though they are probably vying for the same food source.
Pileated Woodpeckers are much bigger than the Downy up above and much more elusive. We have a video that Bob Gilreath made in his backyard of two Pileated dining on his feeder treats. Enjoy!

In the first pic, I love the "roof" over the suet cage. Naturally, it's made of copper!

Believe it or not, we have a menagerie of birds at our feeders in SE TX, including one lone Robin that has decided to visit...
