Nancy Haun has a photographic study here today, of things you don’t expect to see on train tracks. We start off with a truck...yes, that’s a pickup coming down the tracks toward her. She said it belongs to Canadian National, adding that they are really conscientious and are always out there checking the tracks. Must seem a little odd to see a truck on the tracks, though, I wonder if they blow their horn when they cross a road?
The next two photos aren’t really that unusual I suppose, as I’m sure there are deer crossing the tracks all the time, but to catch three of them at once is pretty neat. If you look closely, you can see all three in the first of the two photos and then Nancy zoomed in a bit closer on the pair in the distance for the second shot. Nice!
Jeffrey Tormala sent in the bottom photo to share. He said it was snapped in the backyard of Pine Park Apartments in Ewen. It looks like they are eating out of baskets hanging from that shepherd's hook. Interesting way to feed the deer!
So, we covered things you don’t expect to see on train tracks, how about a video of something you do expect to see on the tracks. Jason Asselin was able to video the Escanaba & Lake Superior Locomotives ELS 402 and ELS 501 pulling a shorter train south toward Wisconsin.

Nice set today! There was a derailment over I-94 in Detroit this morning that closed down the entire freeway, they are still working on it at 12:00 noon.

Omgosh these pictures just pop! I love the
red of the trees behind the deer and the train
tracks showing through the snow. Awesome!
