Danielle Adams gave me a heads up that the Cuyahoga and Saginaw would be coming into port at Marquette. She added that they are fleet mates and look almost identical. With a friend along, she found them around Grand Marais and then followed them all the way to Marquette, watching them pull up to the LS&I Ore Dock less than an hour apart. Exciting times for a Boatnerd for sure!

As darkness came, Danielle stuck around to make a video of the loading of ore pellets. You can’t really see the chutes in this video, because they were loading up front, behind the pilot house first, but part way through, you’ll hear the sound of the ore being loaded into the hatches on the boat. I was surprised that it gets quite loud!

Along with this almost everyday, I look at the
Mariner page. I used to see the Roger Blough and
the American Spirit in the Soo every time I was
there on business. I haven't seen the Spirit on
the map lately, say's she's in "Dry Dock",
probably maintenance & repair, she's one massive
1000'er!!

American Spirit lays up due to economy

5/25 - American Spirit arrived in Toledo early on Sunday
morning and went to the CSX #2 Dock for temporary layup
due to lack of demand. Two other ASC 1,000-footers,
American Century and American Integrity, have yet to fit out
for the season. The fleet’s H. Lee White and Sam Laud are
also in lay up.

I, too, like the night time picture. So
pretty.

6/13 - The American Steamship Co. 1,000-footer American Integrity will start her season on Sunday. She will leave Sturgeon Bay to load ore at Silver Bay.
