Judy Byykkonen and family took advantage of the beautiful day we had Sunday and headed to Eagle River for some beach fun. When they arrived there, though, they encountered a little fog, but that didn’t stop them. There was swimming to do, rock skipping to be done and pictures to be taken. It looks like the Lake Superior water level is still high and like last summer, there’s a little less beach there than in past years. It’s still a great place to spend a day. I think Judy’s last photo is my favorite. Makes me feel like I’m there lying on the beach, watching the water swirl around the rocks on shore.

We’re heading to Baraga County for today’s video, shared by the Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula Facebook page, where they’ve started a series of videos titled: Experience the Keweenaw 2020. Today’s experience is at the Canyon Falls, which is just south of L’Anse, in Baraga County. It’s often referred to as the Grand Canyon of Michigan. It’s well worth the stop to check this one out.

Wow, the water is really close to Fitz's these days!

It's amazing how much they have done to Canyon Falls. The first time i was there, in the '60's, with my Mom & sister, there was a single sign by the parking lot. No boardwalks, etc. It was a misty October, late afternoon, and we walked quite a ways but never found it. Thereafter we called it "Phantom Falls". Then in the 70's, the NMU days, i went back and hiked to the falls. Sounds like they did a lot to make it easier hiking in the ensuing decades. Like you Alex, it's unlikely we'll get back there, so we enjoy these videos. Thanks Mary!

I couldn't believe how meant people we saw
swimming in that lake yesterday. I've gone in
that water once and only once on Memorial
weekend. That cured me.
