Even though there is still ice on the shoreline of the Big Lake in the Brimley area, the sun was shining and the temps were warming up a bit, so Brenda Leigh took her mountain bike out over the weekend and spent the day riding, picking some rocks and watching the ice heaving and calving along the way. You can see the big ice chunks in her photos here today. Brenda said it was pretty cool to see this happening in Lake Superior when those mountains of ice were breaking off from the edges. She wished she had her video going when it was happening, but alas that wasn’t to be.
Instead we have a much smaller ice formation from the I Love Sault Ste. Marie Facebook page, with a seagull floating on it and then taking off in flight. Nothing “earth-shattering”, but pretty neat to see.

Hi The bike and the lake ice make an interesting contrast. I remember a few years ago pictures on TV of kayaks and beach-goers, along with ice floes, near Marquette around Memorial Day.

Bikes and Ice.
I used to travel to Finland quite a bit for business before I retired. I was amazed at the number of people of all ages that rode bicycles all Winter.
