Even if you’ve never met Nancy Haun and are just casually acquainted with her, it is immediately apparent that she is a big fan of trains. Lucky for us that she is, too, as we get to see them coming and going in the L’Anse area, through her lens. Nancy snapped the first shot here today, just after the CN train had gone by from Summit, heading to Nestoria. Next she captured the CN coming out of the woods at Bovine, on its way down L’Anse Hill, heading to Certainteed. And in her last shot, the CN 5408 leaves Summit, making its way through some gorgeous country to Nestoria. This is the same curve as in the first photo, too. Nancy says that she hopes to make this trip someday!

In the meantime, Nancy keeps snapping and recording the trains in the area as they go up and down the tracks. Today’s video is The CN 5431 and 5408 backing over the Falls River into the CertainTeed lot to pick up a group of Railroad Cars in L'Anse. The bonus is you get to see the rushing waters of the Falls River, too.

Nice U.P. train photos and a great video with the train in motion and the river underneath!! Thanks for taking us along!

Wow, what an awesome sight...a raging river and a train!

Re "Backing Over the Falls River" video:

Just out of curiosity, do they really have to run "double heading" for six freight cars?

Maybe we need to bring back the ol' steam locomotives?
[Yes it's been ≈70 years, but I still miss the old Michigan Central, and the DSS&A (a.k.a. Dust, Sand, Soot & Ashes).]

Wouldn't y'all like to see the …

… rolling across da UP? Here the UP 4014 Big Boy is arriving at Duluth, MN.

Observation: That train crew, the engineer in particular, must go home at the end of their shift with that infernal bell still clanging incessantly in their heads!
What a throwback, that bell, like you wouldn't realize the train was coming without it?

That seems a bit like the mandatory man carrying a flag or lantern while walking ahead of the first "horseless carriages"!
