It’s always a treat when we get new photos to share from Fred Koski Photography. A Ruffed Grouse is the subject today, but Fred used the name it is often mistakenly called here in the U.P., when he titled these A Partridge in a Crabapple Tree in January. I’ve always called them Partridges, too. No matter what you call them, they have some beautiful detail in their feathers and the way they fluff them up to drum is pretty cool, too. Fred captured some beauties with his lens bringing us right up close for a look that we normally wouldn’t get.

The video today says at the beginning that it’s best to use headphones or full range speakers to hear the low-range frequencies. So if you have a set of earbuds, give that a try. If not, turn your volume up so you can hear it better. The drumming sound these birds make is pretty amazing, not something you’d think would come from a bird. It sounds more like a motor starting up.

I love the video and the bird.

Nice detail in the pix and the soundtrack on the video was excellent. The Ruffed Grouse Drumming kinda sounds like me when I wake up in the morning and try to kick-start the olé' bod.

Great Pic's and video!! More than once when walking in the woods behind Little Betsy, I've had them fly off right next to me and that drumming makes a very loud sound when everything else is quiet and at a standstill in the woods!! It'll test the ol ticker and you'd better be a quick, accurate shot if that's what your counting on for dinner!!
