We have three guest photographers today, that each captured a portion of the excitement of this past week with the Kraft Hockeyville 2019 game between the Detroit Red Wings and the St. Louis Blues professional hockey teams. We start with two shots from Gail Ongie who was on hand the morning of the game, when the school kids and adults lined the entrance to the Calumet Colosseum, waiting for the teams to arrive from the airport. They graciously signed autographs and talked to fans, young and old alike.

The next two photos were snapped at the game by Brita Haapala, from Brita Caroline Photography. She captured the fans enjoying the game and one of my favorite photos, a youngster getting an autograph from a St. Louis Blues player who was in the penalty box. How cool is that?

The final two photos were taken by Jean Dessellier during the game. She grabbed a shot of one of the faceoffs, looking a little intense with body language and another shot of game action that was speeding by.

The Detroit Red Wings won the game with 4 goals to St. Louis Blues 1 goal. But no matter who you were rooting for, it was an exciting, once in a lifetime event here in the Copper Country. Even folks that aren’t big hockey fans were pumped up for the game, cheering them on from home on the TV if they didn’t win the ticket lottery.

WJMN Local 3 has a recap of the event on video here today for your enjoyment. The NHL had a good video that tells the story, too, but we couldn’t share it here, so instead, here’s a link to go watch it. You may have to be a Facebook member to view it though: NHL Kraft Hockeyville USA – Week Recap. My apologies if you can’t view this one.

The local Detroit news did a piece on the Calumet Colosseum as one of the oldest in North America. This is from Wikipedia:
"The Calumet Colosseum is an ice hockey arena in Calumet, Michigan, built in 1913. It is considered the oldest operating continuous-use ice rink in North America. It is one of the oldest operating indoor hockey arenas in the world, only a few years younger than the Matthews Arena, which opened in 1910."

So exciting for the Copper Country to have this
happen. We were there one weekend too early.
We were in the lottery for tickets but didn't
get any. I do know quite a few people who dogs
get to go so I'm so excited for them. Thanks
for sharing your pictures with us.

What an exciting thing to happen to our Copper
Country. I've seen so many pictures on FB from
friends and family who were lucky enough to get
tickets. We were in the lottery but were not
chosen. We were there one weekend too soon to
get to be involved in any of the excitement.
What a great thing to happen to the area.
Thanks for sharing your pictures with the rest
of us.

Sorry about the double post. I didn't see that
the first one posted. Feel free to remove the
first one, Mary.
