Melody Provost Holmes shares a few photos of some of the signs of fall that she has spotted recently. The crabapples are ripening and red, the pinecones are growing and suspended from the branches and these white berries are sprouted on Gray Dogwood trees. I know nothing of these trees, so if someone can fill us in on them and whether the berries are just for the birds or can be consumed by humans, please chime in. I’ve also noticed that some of the leaves are beginning to turn already. It’s early yet, though, around here in the Keweenaw.
Today’s video is a little over a month ahead of the current weather, but was so neat with the turkeys up in the crabapple tree, getting themselves a snack, I had to share it. It’s just so strange to see these large birds up in a tree.

Because of the looks of Gray Dogwood they are also known as doll eyes.

Way cool! We have a couple of crab apple trees out back...I've never seen a turkey in the tree tho. But I have seen them roosting in other trees...I will have to get what's left out there, after Melody grabbed a few! LOL and throw them out for the two moms and 17 babies coming in!!

Could those turkeys be the ones dropped from the WKRP helicopter?

1. From YootToob (click →): "Turkey in the Tree, er… Straw?", by The Smoky Mountain Band (instrumental). [Yes it does get a tad tedious.]

2. I guess that tall furry camelid under that tree must be a "Doll Eye Llama"? 😉

I tried throwing a few crab apples on the ground. There were just 18 turkeys in here and them apples remain!

We're UP for a couple of days and I'm totally surprised at the lack of color. We don't have a lot in Minnesota but I thought there'd be a little more here. Northern Minnesota is quite colorful so I thought that's how it would be here. However, the chairlift ride in the Porkies was quite pretty.
