With Lake Superior being covered with so much ice this winter, it’s taking awhile for it all to break up and melt away. Stacey Flood and friends were out along the Keweenaw shoreline between Copper Harbor and Eagle Harbor checking things out last Sunday. They found a pretty good amount of white still floating, but a promising amount of open water between the floes, too. So, have faith, the melt is on! I like the color of Lake Superior in the second shot, it’s such a dark shade of blue, with the stark white of the ice afloat there.
Meanwhile, in Marquette around Presque Isle, the shoreline is opening there, too. Shawn Malone of Lake Superior Photo said it was exhilarating to capture the beautiful sound of the open water and waves again, after the long, frozen winter silence. It’s a beautiful sound!

...We are well into Spring...time for sitting down in the moist pine needles, studying a patch of forest floor, and seeing the universe down there in a robin's egg, moss, and bluets.
