Even though shipping has been open on the Great Lakes since mid-March, it’s still rough going on Lake Superior, due to the ice shifting with the winds. Today’s photos were snapped by Frances Czapski from the Whitefish Point Facebook page. That’s the Paul R. Tregurtha on the right and the Algoma Strongfield recently stuck in the ice at Whitefish Point. They were waiting for the Coast Guard Ice Breaker Mackinaw to come cut a path through the ice for them to continue on their way. The second photo zooms in on the Hon. James L. Oberstar, showing the choppy ice that’s holding them in place, too.

The sailors on Lake Superior this time of year, are a special breed, braving the cold and icy waters to deliver or pick up the cargo they’re carrying. Keith Baker is one of those sailors aboard the Cason J. Callaway. He posted today’s video on his ”Storm Warrior” Great Lakes Sailor Facebook Page, as the Callaway was “sledding through the ice on Whitefish Bay this past Thursday morning.” Sure gives you a good perspective on Lake Superior sailing in the springtime.

Where am I?...what year is this?
Yesterday, my frustration was extended preparing extensions, because our cloud-based tax software that we pay thousands for every year was so overloaded, it crashed. So much for modern technology :(
And yes, UC...if I could fly, I'd be on that plane tomorrow buddy, but I think I'd be headed UP, taking in a few waterfalls...that sounds heavenly right now :)
