Another Superior shoreline check to see what’s happening with the snow and ice. Christi Schmitt, her niece, nephew and Harlow, her four-legged kid visited McLain Park earlier this week and found some ice still hanging on, but receding from the shoreline somewhat. It looks like the ground was bare in the park though, at least for the most part. The kids found some fun, even though there was no swimming or picnic that day.

So, these photos were taken earlier in the week and the notes written before the predicted “blizzard” for us here in the Keweenaw on Thursday, so conditions may be a bit different today if we did get that storm. Our video from “In the Keweenaw” is my way of ignoring whatever the weather may be and dreaming of warmer, sunnier days... Dusk at the Breakers, take me away!

Never can go wrong with kids and a dog(s)

Took many a walk out all the way to the end of the breakwater while stationed at the old Portage Coast Guard Station (just downriver from McLain) 1970-71. Sure had great evening gatherings on the beach at McLain with the lovely girlfriends we guys met from Calumet, Laurium, Hancock, and Lake Linden. Super nice people in the Keweenaw and many great memories.

I enjoy the sand swirls in the first picture. Looks kinda tasty even.
