Kevin Dunham captured plenty of action at his Munising bird feeder recently, when a flock of American Goldfinch birds were flitting back and forth on a snowy day. Kevin said he sits about 20 feet away from his birdfeeders to capture action shots like these. It looks like there are plenty of treats out there for them all, but of course there’s always a couple silly birds that have to squabble about the best spot to sit on the feeder. Kevin captured that perfectly in the bottom two shots. If you’re wondering what equipment he uses to get these amazing action shots, he says he photographs them with his Sony a1, with a Sony 70-200 lens. With that being said, there’s more to it than just the camera and lens, you also have to know how to fix the settings just right to produce artistry like today’s photos. Thank goodness Kevin does and shares his work with us to enjoy!
If you’ve even wondered how on earth these little feathered friends make it through the winter here UP North, well today’s your lucky day. We join Lesley the Bird Nerd to find out “How Birds Survive Winter”. Lesley says: “Winter is a tough season but birds have many ways of surviving through it. In this video, I go through a few of the ways they accomplish this.”

These are awesome! We've had a few birds, usually only during a blizzard. We used to get a lot of birds until the neighbor cut down all of his cedar trees. Now there's no place for them to go. So I love it when there are bird pictures posted.

Ah Deb...what a bummer! Now, you gotta plant trees..
These are such stunning pics. Well done Mr. Dunham. wow....Not much color change on them yet tho....They are always a great indicator when Spring is on it's way!
CopperDog 150 starts this Friday, Feb. 28th. If you're out snowmobiling in the Keweenaw, be aware you will be sharing some of the trails with the dogs & mushers. Here is a map and info to help identify those trails.
Ron's excited about being a crossing guard. I hope he likes it.

Very beautiful shots, especially considering the lower lighting on a cloudy day. Of course it can be hard to find sunny days AND such great bird activity during a UP winter.
