When it rains, it pours, so I guess when it snows, it blizzards? We had a good old fashioned blizzard in the Keweenaw last week and it really dumped the snow in the higher elevations. Frank Ozanich took these photos after the first 16” fell in Ahmeek and he said they had over 30” fall before it was all said and done. The crazy part of that is when they had those first 16” fall UP there on the hill, us folks down in the “gully” (Lake Linden) only had about 3 or 4 inches fall. That always blows my mind, that 10 miles away, they can get 13” more snow than we had fall here. Frank told me he had to carry his little dog out to the road for their early morning walk this day, as the snow was up to Frank’s knees. He’d have lost her in the snow and may not have been able to find her until spring, otherwise.

Check out Frank’s third photo and take note of the Stop sign at the end of the street. The snowbank is up to the bottom of the sign! And then that pile in the driveway in the bottom photo. That’s a bit of snow to shovel or snowblow before that truck is going anywhere. Good thing us Yoopers are equipped to handle all this white stuff. We’re definitely having an old fashioned winter this year.

Visit Keweenaw says: “Punxsutawney Phil is calling for six more weeks of winter... Bring it on!” In other words...we’re ready and we can handle it!

Definitely an “In the thick of it” set!
There was a time when I could have
handled it, but now?…No way, Jose.
I liked the video…make the best of
the situation!

Looks like Heikke Lunta's been working overtime UP there!

I knew these were Frank's photos
as soon as I saw them. These are
really great pictures, and shows
just how much snow we can get UP
here. I have another friend in
Ahmeek who told me how much snow
they got that day. It blew my
mind! Like Mary, I was shocked,
because we hardly got any, and
they got buried just 10 miles
away. Every day we get snow it
seems. It really is pretty when
you're watching it come down, as
seen in Frank's 2nd picture. You
have to be here to appreciate the
beauty, I guess.

Gorgeous stuff Frank...Pretty wild when you can
barely see the Stop sign! And we still got a way to
go!!

Cool Vid.

And I'm with Alex....at one time..I would have
gotten into shoveling all that snow. Now, I'd have
to be carried to the street too.

Now that's the Copper Country I remember!
